25th Annual Strides: Celebrating Disability Pride

The Strides walk/run promotes inclusion and shows what disability means today. This unifying and spirited event brings together a diverse group of people—with and without disabilities—to break down barriers and show what’s possible with the right access, opportunities and support. 

The annual run/walk was once again hosted by the Los Angeles Angels, a longtime supporter of ESSC. Attendees rocked out with the Anaheim Ducks DJ JoJo; enjoyed spirited dance performances by the internationally acclaimed dance team The Rollettes; and were able to hang out with the Angels Strike Force and the Anaheim Ducks Street Team and Wild Wing—All of whom brought high energy to the event.

More fun was had by young and old alike at an expo that featured more than 20 booths with such family friendly activities as carnival games, a LEGO building station, face painting, a balloon artist, free snacks and more! 

Adult Day Services (ADS) program participant Ed W. was interviewed by KTLA-TV, a 5k race finishing medal displayed proudly around his neck. When asked about what Easterseals and disability pride means to him, he said “Independence.  We go to see the Angels play, go bowling, go to the beach and” he emphasizes excitedly, “In July, I got to throw out the first pitch. I’m a big Angels fan!”

This year’s event raised more than $180,000, with all proceeds directly benefitting ESSC programs, including autism therapy services, adult day services, child development services, living options and employment services.  And it’s not too late to donate!

ESSC assists more than 25,000 people with disabilities in Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, Imperial, Kern, San Bernardino, Riverside and Ventura counties. Together, we’re empowering people with disabilities, families and communities to be full and equal participants in society.
