Working Towards a Hollywood Ending, Jorge is a ‘Creative Journeyman’

Jorge, who has been participating in Easterseals Adult Day Service (ADS) in Van Nuys for 12 years, proudly refers to himself as a “creative journeyman” and with good reason. Ambitious and with an ever-widening artistic toolkit, he’s working toward a Hollywood ending.

An avid video game player—Dungeons & Dragons is a favorite—Jorge is also an artist, music composer, and writer. Next on his list is coding, as he also looks to add filmmaking to his creative pursuits.

He is currently working on his first screenplay, a comedy story inspired by Nickelodeon’s The Loud House, and plans to follow it with an animated, horror anthology film based on Goosebumps.

“My favorite genres are horror and comedy,” says Jorge, who plays piano and who plans to write original soundtracks for his films utilizing the GarageBand app. His musical taste covers a wide range, but he clarifies that “Number one is electronica music.” 

A fan of Jack Black and Tom Hanks, among his favorite films that provide inspiration are Anaconda, Minecraft, Jumanji, School of Rock, Strange Invaders, Dreamscape, Twilight Zone: The Movie and Kung Fu Panda.

Jorge also hopes to enter the 2026 Easterseals Disability Film Challenge, which will celebrate its 13^th year in April 2026. During the Film Challenge, registered filmmakers are given a span of five days over the designated timeframe to write and produce short films (one-to-five minutes), based on the year’s announced genre, which promotes disability inclusion. 

“We’ve been throwing around ideas left and right and watching previous Film Challenge entries,” says Jorge’s Life Skills Coach, Patty Mancilla. “He’s creative, a hard worker and more than capable. He wants to be part of the Film Challenge and he’s excited to make it happen.”

“He’s very creative,” adds Michael Smith, program director of the Van Nuys ADS program. “He’s always thinking outside of the box.” 

“I’ll probably star in it too,” Jorge notes. And not one to think small, he says an Oscar is “definitely” in his future. “Or an Emmy or an Annie Award for animation!” he adds.
