Guidelines for Interacting with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)

Steps to help you respond appropriately should you have any interactions with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in your local community.

Detailed Steps if Approached by ICE

  • Stay Calm and Professional
  • Do not panic or engage in aggressive behavior
  • You have the right to remain silent, not answer any questions or discuss your immigration or citizenship status.
  • If an ICE agent asks if they can search you, you have the right to say no.
  • If an ICE agent requests information regarding the immigration or citizenship status of you, someone you know, or a family member, you have the right to stay silent or not respond. You have the right to speak with an attorney.
