Easterseals Champions Father Engagement at Fatherhood Summit

Easterseals Southern California (ESSC) proudly served as the Platinum and Presenting Sponsor of the Neighborhood House Fatherhood Summit, held August 24-27, helping bring together community leaders, educators, service providers, and families to advance father engagement and strengthen support for children and families across California.

The summit highlighted the critical role fathers and father figures play in child development, family well-being, and long-term community success. 

Attendees heard from an impressive lineup of speakers, including entrepreneur and author Stedman Graham, Dr. Tommy Sheridan, Director of the National Head Start Office, and entertainer Nick Cannon, who joined his father in sharing personal perspectives on fatherhood, family engagement, and the importance of positive role models.

Ron Griffin, Vice President of Child Development Services, represented Easterseals SoCal as a summit speaker, sharing insights on the lasting impact caring adults and father figures can have in a child's life.

"While fathers play an incredibly important role, positive father figures can be equally impactful when a father is not present in the home," Griffin said. "Children benefit greatly from caring, engaged adults who provide guidance, stability, and support."

The event underscored the power of collaboration among organizations committed to serving children and families. ESSC partnered closely with Neighborhood House Association to support the summit and explore opportunities for future partnerships.

"We've seen how much stronger the impact can be when organizations come together around a shared goal," Griffin said. "Rather than working independently, collaboration allows us to reach more families, build stronger community connections, and create greater opportunities for children and families to thrive."

Research consistently shows that positive father involvement is associated with stronger educational outcomes, improved emotional well-being, and greater long-term stability for children. By creating space for learning, connection, and partnership, the summit reinforced the important role fathers and father figures play in helping children succeed.
