On a day filled with excitement and community spirit, two devoted Chargers fans stood out—Vera Richards, an Easterseals Southern California (ESSC) Living Options resident, and Jacob Ibarra, a participant at Easterseals Adult Day Services in Glendora.
Invited as special guests for the Chargers vs. Steelers Salute to Service game, Vera and Jacob were treated to the ultimate experience at SoFi Stadium. The duo’s enthusiasm for football and their beloved Bolts was matched only by the warmth and inclusivity of the event itself.
Game Day Magic: From Pre-Game Vibes to On-Field Triumph
The day began at the Easterseals Activation Booth in the Upper American Airlines Plaza. Designed to connect fans with our mission. There, visitors had an opportunity to soak in the pre-game atmosphere, meet fellow fans and enjoy a meet-and-greet with Zeus—a rescue pup training to become a military veteran’s service dog, presented by ESSC as part of our partnership with the Chargers.
Fans also received dog-themed giveaways--including co-branded ESSC + Chargers leashes and bowls and a fidget toy–handed out by our IDEA team in support of disability inclusion and community empowerment. Jacob was even gifted with a Los Angeles Chargers oversized fan chain necklace featuring a foam bolt by Lisa Foxx, on air host at iHeartRadio’s 104.3 MYFM.
Vera and Jacob donned Chargers gear to cheer on the team. Their excitement was captured and shared via photos and video clips. The energy was electric as the Chargers clinched a big win against the Pittsburgh Steelers, making the day even more unforgettable for these super fans. Shared Isaiah Alegre, Jacob’s Adult Day Services Coordinator, “It was truly an amazing opportunity and I'm so happy I was able to be included as Jacob and Vera got to experience their first Chargers games at SoFi Stadium.”
Added Saundra Sahagun, Vera’s Residential Administrator, “Vera was extra excited about attending this game because her 50th birthday is on Nov 21. It was a special gift for her to be able to attend her first Chargers game at SoFi Stadium right before her milestone birthday.”
Field of Dreams: A Post-Game Celebration
After the final whistle, Vera, Jacob and other Easterseals representatives were escorted onto the field for an exclusive photo opportunity—a moment that captured the joy, pride and sense of belonging that defined the day. The experience was more than just a football game, it was a celebration of community, empowerment and the belief that everyone deserves a chance to be part of the team.
Said Vera, “SoFi is a nice new stadium. I love sports and really enjoyed myself. The football game was exciting and very special to me. I’m glad the L.A. Chargers won! It was an amazing experience and so fun, I want to do it again!”
Proud Partnership: Easterseals & the Chargers
As a Proud Partner of the Los Angeles Chargers and Presenting Partner of the Chargers Pup program, ESSC continues to champion inclusion, accessibility and empowerment for people with disabilities. The Salute to Service game was a testament to the organization’s commitment to breaking down barriers and creating unforgettable experiences for participants.
