Most people with behavior challenges get help at home or in a treatment center. But sometimes, behaviors can become so serious that they affect a person’s health or safety. When that happens, extra care and support are needed.
Easterseals is one of the few places in Southern California that offers special outpatient services for people with severe behavior issues—especially those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
What Are Severe Behaviors?
Severe behaviors may include:
Self-harm, eating problems, or talking about wanting to hurt oneself
Causing damage, breaking objects, or destroying property
Needing special spaces like padded rooms to stay safe
Who Can Receive Services?
There’s no age limit—children, teens, and adults are all able to receive services
Most participants have autism or other disabilities and show serious behavior challenges
Our services are designed to be safe and effective, so we can help people make real progress
The Referral Process
We work closely with families and care providers to create treatment plans that are safe and focused on clear goals. Here’s how the referral process works:
Where Referrals Come From
Referrals can be made by:
Schools
Regional centers
Private insurance companies
Families or caregivers directly
What Happens Next
Once a referral is received, our team reviews the person’s needs and background.
We may schedule an observation or ask for more information to make sure our program is the right fit.
If accepted, we’ll work with the family and referring provider to build a custom treatment plan that focuses on safety and progress.
Special Considerations
We accept participants with complex needs, including aggression, feeding issues, sleep problems, and more.
Our team includes trained professionals who understand how to support people with severe behavior challenges.
