Easterseals Child Development Services has been by Diana’s side since her daughter Luna was just one years old. Thanks to Easterseals’ vital support, resources, and quality childcare, Diana is able to work and provide for her family while her daughter builds a strong educational foundation for her future.
Luna began her journey with Easterseals’ in the Home Base program, which delivers educational and family services directly to families' homes, promoting parental engagement and school readiness. Luna then went on to the attend the Early Head Start program at Easterseals' Encinitas Child Development Center and now, at three years old, participates in the Head Start program.
“I am very, very happy with Easterseals providing really great teachers,” said Diana. “She has learned a lot. She learned how to draw shapes, she sings, and her speaking is a lot better than before she started Head Start. She is having full on conversations and saying her ABCs.”
Beyond Luna’s progress, Diana explains that Easterseals has connected her with many community resources. These include access to the on-site food pantry, a program that offers free car seats, and a transportation service to help with school pick-up.
But what is most important to Diana is knowing her daughter is safe and cared for while she works to support her family. Prior to the Head Start program, Diana didn’t have childcare, which made it difficult to make ends meet. Now, she has the flexibility to pick up more hours at work.
“I was struggling a lot,” said Diana. “I was only able to work 15 hours a week, which was just not doing it. I love how I am able to drop my daughter off and feel very comfortable that she is in a safe environment. It’s amazing how this program works and can help families.”
All of the programs that Easterseals Child Development Services provide aim to support not just the child, but the whole family unit. This is especially true in Diana’s case, as the Head Start program has given her a sense of security while knowing that her daughter is getting a great education.
"Easterseals has played an essential role in Luna's development,” said Cecilia Baeza, Center Director for Easterseals Child Development Services in Encinitas. “Since joining our program, she has become significantly more independent and confident. Additionally, her mother, Diana, has received invaluable support and resources to advocate for Luna's needs. Seeing Luna thrive has been incredibly rewarding, and Easterseals is proud to be part of their journey."
